The Bonegilla story began in the years following World War II, when millions of people seeking a new start and peace, departed for Australia. An army camp at Bonegilla was transformed into a migrant reception and training centre where new arrivals lived while they were processed and allocated jobs.
Very popular with tourists. Showcases early migrant life in Australia during the 60's and 70's.
An eye opening voyage back in time right on our doorstep. A must for any history buff or person with family links with post war migration.
Lovely place to spend a good few hours wandering around, taking in the exceptional surrounds and interactive displays at the Bonegilla Migrant Center. A vast majority of Australian families can point to their ancestry in Australia as having passed through this migrant centre. Bonus : lots of lovely quiet kangaroos around the lawns : )
