Boone, North Carolina and the surrounding areas are home to some of the finest trout streams in the eastern United States. The mountain streams offer incredible opportunities for beautiful wild trout. The tailwaters have amazing hatches, and can be fished year round. Both rivers offer a unique experience and are very different in character. The Watauga fishes like a large freestone river and the South Holston is more like a large spring creek. The Mother's day Caddis hatch on the Watauga is a must see, and the South Holston is famous for a Sulphur hatch that starts in May and can last until November.
